Reading USA nutritional panels 
USA nutritional panels use Total Carbs, so to calculate the Net Carbs that we use here in NZ take the total carbs of 12g, less dietary fibre of 5g, less sugar alcohols from Erythritol  of 7g = leaving zero net carbs.  
The reason why these things are deducted, is that your body does not convert them into Energy at all. In both NZ and Australia we only count Net Carbs, as those are the only carbs that get burned to create calories.
